Jean Reno shot scenes for the film, but they were completely cut from the finished film
Line of Events
A high-ranking CEO puts his career and family on the line when he begins a steamy affair with his much younger intern. I recently watched Babygirl and I have to say it is one of the most unique and daring thrillers I have seen in a while. Directed by Halina Reijn, the film delves deeply into the complexity of human desires and power dynamics, surrounded by an intense, almost suffocating atmosphere.
First of all, the view is stunning
Jasper Wolf’s cinematography captures the raw emotion of each scene, combining light and shadow to create a cozy, almost dreamlike world. There is a constant sense of tension, as if something explosive is always going to happen, and the pacing keeps the viewer on the edge of the seat throughout. Nicole Kidman gives an incredible performance, bringing a mixture of vulnerability and cold calculation to her character.
That said, Babygirl is not a movie for everyone
The supporting cast, while lesser known, also do a great job of adding depth and unpredictability to the story. Without giving too much away, the film’s exploration of psychological control and submission feels both disturbing and mesmerizing. Its erotic elements are tastefully done, but some viewers may find them uncomfortable or controversial.
It’s disturbing, stylish, and will be on your mind long after the credits roll
The plot feels intentionally vague at times, forcing you to piece together the character’s motivations, which was interesting to me, but may frustrate others. Overall, if you like psychological thrillers that don’t shy away from taboo subjects and push boundaries, then Babygirl is definitely worth a watch.
